Approximately 50 cars have been marked with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to authorities.
Vehicles, exterior walls and postboxes were vandalized, occasionally with swastikas, they stated in a statement.
Officers state they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a individual noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored liquid.
The fluid had been placed in the shape of a banned symbol, they stated.
Officers then located multiple other marked vehicles and house walls in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws banning the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.
Law enforcement report initial examinations suggest the substance was most likely human blood.
"At present there remains no lead as to where it came from; officials are currently not cognizant of any harm in association with the occurrence," they commented.
Municipal representatives announced they were working "to resolve the incident" and have asked to the public for tips.
An important political figure commented the vandalism made him stunned and had to be resolved rapidly.
"This act affects the center of Hanau and revives the pain of the far-right terrorist attack five years ago," he posted on online, recalling the death of nine victims by a shooter focusing on individuals of immigrant origin in February 2020.
