Revitalized Medvedev Secures Maiden Title in Nearly 30 Months

19 of Medvedev's twenty-one victories have been won on hardcourt

A resurgent Daniil Medvedev secured his first championship for nearly 30 months with a win over Frenchman Moutet in the competition championship match.

The Russian, a ex- number one, has had a challenging season, managing just a single victory at the major tournaments and suffering a difficult moment at the American major.

His varied form on the professional circuit - and issues with his serve in especial - led to him exiting of the top ten and ultimately splitting with former coach Gilles Cervara.

Now working with his coach and Rohan Goetzke, he has consistently improved in the last few weeks - culminating in a tightly fought three-set triumph over opponent Corentin Moutet.

This represents the player's first title following the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hardcourt after spring of that year.

The win also means the Russian has achieved 21 championships at twenty-one distinct competitions.

"This marks the first occasion I am participating in a competition with my both daughters simultaneously, so to win a title is particularly special," said ranked player the champion.

"This title is in honour of my younger daughter my daughter, because the initial championship I achieved when my older daughter my daughter was born was for her."

The tennis star, the former major winner, had lost his past six title deciders, including in that event in the past months.

The player's defensive approach and regular emotional displays on the tennis court had led observers to question if his capacity to play at the highest level was concluded.

Yet the 29-year-old has made changes in recent weeks, making an effort to advance forward and play assertively, reinforced by an enhanced service.

He fought back from a break down in the first set against the difficult Moutet, winning four of the last five exchanges to gain the advantage.

The pair swapped break points in the middle set before the challenger, striving for his first tour title, seized the initiative to force a final set.

The opponent rescued 4 early-game opportunities in a close third set before the Russian won the break to that score to serve for the match.

Fittingly, he clinched the title with a point at the net, with Moutet unable to control a return after over two and a half hours.
